Step into the fascinating world of basketry, the ancestral craft of creating objects by weaving plant fibres. A true source of local pride, this activity was at the heart of Cadenet’s community life during the 19th and 20th centuries. In 1906, there were no fewer than 206 basket makers for just 2,000 inhabitants in Cadenet!

Founded in 1988, the Basketry Museum is located on the very site of the former “La Glaneuse” basketry workshop. Today, it houses an exceptional and ever-growing collection, enriched over time thanks to the generosity of Cadenet’s residents, many of whom have had a personal or family connection with a basketry workshop at some point in their lives.

What you will discover:

More than 1,000 woven objects from here and around the world: baskets, hats, furniture, decorations…
An immersive experience into traditional workshop techniques and tools: billhooks, secateurs, moulds and other period instruments.
Rare testimonies: audio and video recordings of former Provençal basket makers.
An overview of the raw materials used around the world: wicker, rattan, bamboo, chestnut wood, and even plastic.

And that’s not all: craft workshops will be offered throughout the year for both children and adults! It is the perfect opportunity to try your hand at basketry and leave with your own creation.
